mourning for the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). He is among the active and young Maddahs who, in recent years, has gained a special place among lovers of Ahl al-Bayt mourning gatherings.
He was born in 1982 (1361 SH) near Khorasan Square in Tehran. From the age of five, he accompanied his father, Hojjat al-Islam Seyed Mahmoud Momeni — a veteran preacher — and his late grandfather Seyed Ali Momeni. Interestingly, he was named after his grandfather so that his name would be kept alive. His early involvement in various religious gatherings and his family's legacy led him to begin praising the Ahl al-Bayt (a) from a very young age.
Being by the side of his father and grandfather made him deeply familiar with the atmosphere of religious ceremonies and Maddahi in his teenage years, eventually turning him into a talented and respected young Maddah himself.
Seyed Ali Momeni participated in many gatherings and religious events. One of the most notable places where he performed Maddahi was the “Maktab al-Hossein” group led by Haj Nariman Panahi, whom he took as his role model. He even imitated Haj Nariman’s vocal style and singing techniques. Other famous gatherings he attended included Qanat Abad, the Cloth Sellers’ Guild (Sanfe Bazzazha), Bani Fatemeh, Fatemiyoun, and Pir Ata. In these gatherings, he not only sat by the pulpit but also began reciting Maddahi. He also performed alongside Haj Mahmoud Karimi, Haj Mohammadreza Taheri, and Seyed Majid Bani Fatemeh in the “Ya Zahra (s)” group.
At the age of 18, Seyed Ali Momeni moved to Kashan, where he actively participated in well-known gatherings, especially the Divanegan Hossein (a) group, one of the respected gatherings of that time. There, he became close to the legendary Maddah Seyed Javad Zakari. Sometimes, Momeni would compose poems — inspired by the grace of the Ahl al-Bayt — which Seyed Javad Zakari would then recite. His notable poems included:
"Among all kings...", "If I’ve gone mad...", "The champions of both worlds", "When Hussain, son of Ali, remembers the Prophet", and "I am the dog of Ruqayyah, look O people...".
These experiences enhanced his poetic talents and led him to improve his skills. It is also worth noting that he was a student of Master Hassan Ghasab Yazdali in poetry.
These efforts helped Seyed Ali Momeni become known as a young and talented Maddah.
In 2005 (1384 SH), Momeni returned to Tehran and established a group named Zavvar Al-Hossein (a). This gathering quickly grew and became one of the prominent religious groups in Tehran. His Maddahi performances in this group and others attracted a large audience.
He has a son named Seyed Mohammadjavad Momeni, named in memory of the late Seyed Javad Zakari (r.a.).
Currently, he is also the brother-in-law of Mehran Ghafourian, a popular actor in Iranian cinema.
